Ideas

OK so I was very busy all last week socialising! But it was hot and sunny so who can blame me!

But yesterday and today I've been writing, editing, and flowing ideas!

So I have a couple of musical ideas that I've added together to make super ideas!! I also have some good themes for lyrics; intellegence, fame, vanity, and life!

I've also been working on the ideas that I don't think I'll use for this EP but maybe great tracks for other artists!

So things are getting done...slowly...but throughly!

Trying Hard!

Trying really hard to make sure this EP will be really really good!

I've got one complete song "As If I Love You" which will be a feature on the EP, and I've got a few ideas out there which are nearly complete. I've also got ideas for about 3 or 4 more tracks!

The EP will be six track, like the "For Starters EP", but this one will also have a new version of "To Be" on it. This is to prove that just because its on the EP doesn't mean that it will be the final version for an album.

I want these EPs to be of the highest quality but to also be not final versions! Allowing you lucky people who buy the EP to have the first grass roots versions! I worked out that if you guys own one of my EPs that when/if i release and album you'll get a discounted price. I hope that sounds a good deal!

Anyway its late, I should sleep and write some new material tomorrow!

Second day in the studio

I've now spent 8 hours in total recording my new single, which some of you will have probably heard, but not like this! And I will no doubt probably spend 4 - 6 hours mixing it, and mastering it!

But its going well anyway...rehearsals should start back next week too!

All the other work (website/Acoustic EP/ "un-named" EP/ Last Disguise rehearsals) are also still on going!

To be...

First day in the studio... a 6 hour session and boy am I tired!

The guys did me proud again! They were really patient again, as it took 3 hours for us to work out how to get a sound out of the studio! BUT we got all the basics down, and hopefully shortly we will get the extra bits and bobs!

I wanna get this single further than I did before, I have more time now to try and build up some publicity! SO I better let you know I'm trying to release "To Be" on itunes Mid-June! But once I've got a solid mix, I will let you know more...

The E.P. will be finished around the end of June, and a CD release will be available around July!

Anyway acoustic E.P. very shortly to be found on the new website!

Working hard, but want to work harder!

Prospects for Summer

Well I will for sure be working hard, thats for sure!

Summer for me is the time where I am free to really be creative. I have no pressure from assignments and I can just write and write until something sounds good!

I also want to try some different creative business adventures, for example I've some ideas about iphone game apps that involve sound, and education, if I can get that to work and get that up and running that would be sweet. I also want to write a song for an artist, I want to get some more contacts in the industry, and writing songs for other people can be a great way to do that!

I'm planing to very busy throughout the holiday, at the end of the day points mean prizes!

Too Busy To Blog...

...Not been on here in a while, which means I've done loads right? YES I HAVE!

I've booked a gig at the bar I work at in town, and have had to arrange all of the stuff that goes along with arranging a gig at a venue that hasn't had a live event in 2 years!

SO...I've begged and borrowed, and I think I've pulled it off. The band have been rehearsing like crazy doing lots of practising and we have got all the songs very tight. I've borrowed my friends PA equipment, and Alexs (my bass player) microphones and cables! I've got Mike (Keyboard Player) to try and arrange a "Dress Rehearsal" venue so we can practise using all of the gear! Kev (drummer) has just checked out the kit he will be using for the gig, and Luke (guitarist) is working out all the chords for the covers so on the night no-one should get lost!

My house mates George and James are going to end the night off with some DJing and my school friend Cat Ladd will be supporting the gig! So a lot of work has gone into trying to put this on, I just hope people enjoy it!

So yes the 'Joshua Mellor Team' have definitely been working hard to get this sorted, and I they have been great in getting this all together!

THE GIG
Where: Bar Lisi, Saddler gate, Derby
When: Thursday 25th March 2010
Time: Doors 8pm, Live Music from 9pm, End of the night 1am

Time Struggles

Back into the swing with university has created scheduling issues with our rehearsals! BUT we shall carry on!!! We will get through it all, and I've decided to take a different take, by giving the guys the chord patterns and asking them to just go through the songs for at least 30 mins in the week when they can!

This should speed up the rehearsal process when we do get time together, and should tighten the band up.

University, work, and music makes one jam packed cocktail for life!

Website and Stuff

James Peverill and I are working on the Joshua Mellor website, and we are currently working on marketing the music through web and live performances. So more detail with that will be revealed on here soon!!

I've also joined a band called "Last Disguise" as drummer, so I will keep you guys updated with a bit more of that as well as other of my projects!

Wrote a little song yesterday called "She's So Fly" and once the website is ready I will hopefully make a weekly song that I will put up. But lets see about that.

So as you can see loads of ideas, but lets see what happens!

Band Names

So I've finally decided on a name for my backing band. After a lot of possible names provided by Alex, I decided on a name I thought was good for the first time I heard it. The band was asked if they liked the band and it was all positive. So here it is:

Welcome Ladies and Gentleman to.....Joshua Mellor & The Authentics

So there it is what do people think?

P.S. I've been spending a lot of time writing, and I have two tracks that should be ready by next month. ALSO Me n Luke will hopefully be creating some buzz at the local open mic nights by playing a couple of short sets!

Music Predictions for 2010

Happy New Year Everyone,

I new year, a new decade, time to shine!!

I was just trying to predict the future sound for music for the "tens" and I went back to look at the early "noughties" and like remembered how much good music there was. Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and I know they are still around now...(well Beyonce is) but I saw how their sound has progressed and transformed! And I guess thats a good thing, cause it keeps the new stuff fresh, and the older stuff thats any good memorable to that time. Which then got me thinking to were there any songs in the "noughties" that were timeless...like songs we'll still be singing and playing in 20 or 30 years time like... Livin' on a Prayer, or Summer of '69.

Like at the moment theres a few songs I can think of that will probably stand to that like...Umbrella, PokerFace, Where is the Love?. But I'm seeing how for example the Black Eyed Peas have gone from an earthy acoustic hip hop sound to a electro pop sound to move with the times. Even Timbaland who was, in my eyes, HUGE '06 to '08 has kinda disappeared somewhere (although he has just released a new album).

Anyway I think this year the sound will for sure be the new "electro party rock" thats coming out now; Kesha, Cobra Starship, and 3oh!3 are all producing hard hitting synth tracks. The Black Eyed Peas had their Electro album last year, Britney with 3. I think the club electro sound will be heard alot this year. Hard buzzy synths, with quick vocals! Just my prediction anyway. But where we'll be by the end of this decade I do not know! I just hope I'll be a big part of it!

SIDE NOTE!
Haven't been rehearsing with the band over the christmas period, but I'm super hyped to get back with the guys and jamming out the tracks. I have been trying to write some stuff recently so I'm keeping up with that. Trying to write one full song every 2 weeks!

ANYWAY!! Thanks for reading, Josh!

10 hours writing over the christmas period.
